Limitaciones a las campañas electorales: La expresión política del dinero y sus costos
Keywords:

This essay aims to defend those restrictions imposed on electoral campaigns which seek to improve political representation so as to foster a real equality of opportunities to have access to hold elective public office. According to this essay, political representation in the democratic system fails due to the existence of a ruling elite in governing officers that leaves lower and middle classes without representation. This is the result of the direct relationship between political representation and financial support. Thus, the goal is to reduce this relationship. Candidates afford campaign expenses through the financial support provided by interest groups which expect to receive preferential treatment afterwards. Besides, a lack of limits on the amount of campaign expenses deepens and worsens this situation.
